HandHeld Ham Radios

I am new to ham radio, taking the technician class. i would like to start out with a handheld radio. looking at a few different ones. what would you suggest as a good starter radio? what extras would i need to get on the air. thank you |

Ask your technical class instructor what he would recommend. He may program his radios and be able to "clone" it in a few minutes--if you have the exact same radio he does. While popular, HTs aren't always the best choice for a new ham. It may not enough range in rural or mountainous areas. Its receiver may be lacking in dense urban areas.
