Re - Portable HF Operation with a 12 V AGM sealed lead-acid battery- If I have a 100 W HF radio with an antenna tuner and a dipole antenna for portable operation as above: Do I NEED to ground anything when I am out in the Field, or is it optional, or??? Any thoughts much appreciated- Thanks- Peter A. KF6FZD |

Grounding is optional. Grounding is even optional for portable generators. http://www.arrl.org/electrical-safety OSHA Fact sheet on Grounding Requirements for Portable generators. Portable Generators and OSHA Construction Standards. This monograph by John “Grizzley” Grzywacz explains why OSHA does not require the grounding of portable generators. Hi Zack, MANY thanks for the quick and definitive answer! Another related question: If I were to add an DC-AC Inverter to the battery and power a computer and a Signalink USB for digital communications: Would there be any Safety Issues with that? GROUNDING ISSUES? Many thanks again. Peter A |
