I am evaluating a yaesu ft1d fusion ht. The only fusion repeater in town is not a node but is set to "Fusion AMS mode". However there are 3 nodes in town which I guess are hotspots. This fusion HT has a biggish learning curve. I don't want to spend that effort if I am limited to local work. |

The repeater must be connected to the internet either directly or through a node if you want to talk other than local. Independent of the internet the repeater can operate in the DN, VW, or AMS mode. Repeater direct connection to the internet requires the repeater to have the appropriate 1X hardware and firmware. BB |

I later learned how to work crossmode dmr fusion with an openspot and demonstrated a qso from my md-2017 to a guy in a fusion room in Perth Australia at this month's club meeting |
