We are using a KPC 3 Plus for our WINKLINK node. I was wondering if we wanted to add a HF node or upgrade our VHF node, what TNC would give me the best bang for my buck that would allow me to do not only winlink but other digital modes as well.

Pactor is used for HF Winlink nodes, but the hardware modems used are expensive.

There has been a trend to skip using hardware modems and use the computer to handle the software functions of a TNC.

Winmor is a software alternative to a Pactor modem.

On HF, hams will use software programs with a simple hardware interface to operate modes like PSK31, JT65, and RTTY. I've heard that MARS (Military Affiliate Radio Service) uses FLDigi and MT63.
