Upcoming Contests - Things to Do

YOTA Contest, Round 2, is This Weekend

The Youngsters On The Air (YOTA) Contest, round 2, will be held Saturday, July 23, starting at 1000 UTC. The objective of the event is to increase the activities of youth in amateur radio. The contest is organized by IARU Region 1 Youth Working Group, in cooperation with the Hungarian Amateur Radio Society. For more information, visit their website at www.ham-yota.com/contest/.


Lunar Landing EME SSTV Party

July 21 marks 53 years since Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. To celebrate this historic event the C.A. Muller Radio Astronomy Station in the Netherlands will activate PI9CAM on 1296.110 MHz using SSTV mode Martin-2. The station will transmit several lunar landing and space related images starting about 0730 UTC on July 21 and will continue operation until their moonset. Amateurs are also encouraged to attempt SSTV QSOs with the station as well.

Call for Photos from CQ 160-Meter Contest

Andy Blank, N2NT, Director of the CQ World Wide 160-Meter Contest, is looking for photos from the 2022 event for possible use in the results article. He notes, "If you were active in the contest, no matter how big or small the log, we would love to publish a picture of you in the shack or out in the antenna field." Sixty years ago this month, one of the biggest geomagnetic storms of the space age struck Earth. However, it didn't come from the sun.
