11/26/2011Celebration of the 100th birthday of Grote Reber (SK), W9GFZ. Reber was the father of radio astronomy. He built the first radio telescope dish in 1937 to study cosmic radio signals. Reber was the first to map radio emissions from the Milky Way galaxy and the Sun. He published important papers on the ionosphere and the atmosphere, as well as a paper on the age of lava flows. Members of the Louisville Astronomical Society Radio Club, K9LAS, and various Kentucky and southern Indiana radio clubs will activate W9G.
