2016 ARRL Field Day
Our motley crew of 15 operators and rope-pullers decided to bump up from 2A to 6A this year as a one-time major effort from the Firestone Scout Reservation above Brea, California. Our elevation, about 1600 feet above sea level, provided us with a great shot east along with line-of-sight coverage on VHF/UHF to the populous LA/Orange County metropolitan areas.
We found conditions highly variable, with 20 Phone mysteriously non-productive, but 40 Phone yielded over 1500 QSOs, a rather unheard of number from the west coast. Our CW team produced big numbers, and the VHF/Satellite station gave us lots of "free" points that carried the day.
And we're all still speaking to each other afterward--success!
