2008 ARRL Field Day

07/04/2008 | ND6P I operated from a campsite in the Angeles National Forest this year. My brother Larry, KF6VHD, was along and operated a separate station. The nights were quite windy but the antennas held up fine. The main problem during the day was those pesky deer flies. Any advice on how to keep those away would be greatly appreciated.

I also had problems keeping my 100 watt rig powered. The two-stroke gasoline generator blew out the battery charger. The power inverters I had along all made RF noise, especially on 80. Next year think I will go with a deep cycle marine battery and a N8XJK Boost Regulator.

It's alway a joy to get out of the city an hear how quiet the bands can be. Had a great time overall. -- ND6P
